What do the DPOS regulatory changes mean for new students?

These changes mean that there are no longer state requirements for new permanent makeup artists to be a registered cosmetologist or esthetician. Therefore, anyone with any background may sign up for our course and become a certified permanent makeup artist. Zero prior industry experience required.

Do I have to be an esthetician or cosmetologist to join?

NO. With the new regulatory changes in Colorado, enacted in August 2026, ANYONE may become certified as a permanent makeup artist with our program. No prior industry experience is needed, including cosmetology, aesthetics, or tattoo artist experience. If you have further questions, feel free to email us.

What will I be certified in when I complete the course?

Graduates from our fundamentals program will receive a Certificate of Completion from the JBe Beauty Training Studio. Then, students must meet the applicable local body art and tattoo requirements for the city or county where they practice. See the bottom of this page for more info on county requirements.

What financing or payment methods do you offer for tuition?

We are happy to offer financing through Credee, a program that allows students to customize a payment plan to their financial situation. Simply choose the number of monthly payments that works best between 2 and 48 months. Students may also elect for their on time payments to build credit as a bonus, though this is optional.

Do I need tattooing or permanent makeup experience?

No, you do not. The exciting part about the new state regulations is that anyone can become a permanent makeup artist!, You do not need any previous experience nor are you required to be a tattoo artist, esthetician, or cosmetologist to join our course. This is a fundamentals course: our studio is a safe space for beginners & advanced students alike.

What kind of schedule & hours does this program have?

We offer both day and night class scheduling options, as we know many of our students are juggling family, working full time, or both. Our classes are held Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Students may schedule their own model and shadowing days to best suit their schedules.

DAYS ....... 10 am to 4 pm

NIGHTS ....... 3 pm to 9 pm

Permanent Makeup Licensing Requirements by County

DENVER COUNTY

  • Individual Body Artist License required

  • Must work from a licensed Body Art Establishment

  • Complete OSHA compliant Bloodborne Pathogens training

  • BBP training must be current and completed within the past 12 months (Included with JBe Courses)

  • Apply through the City County of Denver

  • Body Artist license must be renewed annually

  • Denver issued artist badge must be visibly worn while working

  • Keep contact information updated with Denver

  • Studio owners also need proper establishment licensing, zoning, and inspections

DOUGLAS COUNTY

  • No separate individual Body Artist License currently required

  • Must work from a licensed Body Art Establishment

  • Complete approved Bloodborne Pathogens training within 90 days of hire (Included with JBe Courses)

  • BBP certification must be renewed annually

  • BBP certificate must be displayed at the studio

  • Must receive the Hepatitis B vaccine or sign documentation declining it

  • Artists must understand...

    • Exposure Control Plan

    • Infection control

    • Disinfection and sterilization

  • Studio must maintain artist training and vaccination records

  • New studios require an application and pre opening inspection

  • Establishment license must be renewed annually

ARAPAHOE COUNTY

  • No individual Body Artist License currently required

  • Must work from a licensed Body Art Establishment

  • Complete an approved Bloodborne Pathogens course

  • BBP training must be completed within 90 days of hire

  • BBP certificate must be posted at the establishment (Included with JBe Courses)

  • Artists must understand...

    • Universal Precautions

    • Infection control

    • Disinfection and sterilization

    • Exposure control

    • Proper waste disposal

  • New studios require an application and pre opening inspection

  • Establishment license is renewed annually

City requirements may still apply depending on the exact location, especially in places like Aurora, Centennial, Parker, Castle Rock, Lone Tree, Englewood, or Littleton. Always verify requirements for the exact address where you plan to practice.
